There are three basic colours. They are Red, Yellow and Blue. The printer works in the similar pattern in addition to one colour i.e. Black. These four multi-coloured dots called as CMYK.

·         C – Cyan (usually means Blue in printing)

·         M – Magenta

·         Y – Yellow

·         K – Black

These four colours of ink are base used for printing in Newspaper. In general, any colours obtained by using these colours in right proportions. These four colours printed on the bottom of the pages in the newspaper as dots or square or as heart shape.

If the four dots on the newspaper are blurred or the colours on the dots overlap each other then the image is not accurate, meaning the printing is not good.

To print the pictures accurately the plates of all these colours placed on the page separately and lined up in the same spot while printing. This gives a clear image without any blur or overlapping. The colours and sizes of CMYK arranged properly.

Here you can see the good quality and clear image on the newspaper. The coloured dots are visible clear without overlapping.

The advancement in technology caused the printing much faster.

Therefore, it is difficult to check each paper manually. To avoid these circumstances, modern printers are used. In these printers, one can identify through four colours whether the printing done properly or not.

This is the reason why CMYK referred as “Registration Mark”.

The same thing happens while printing the books, those marks cut out while binding the books.
